Class Description: In 8th Grade we will be studying the history of the United States from Independence to the early 20th Century.

Text:   Impact: United States History and Geography.    31x7ujReTTL._BO1,204,203,200_.jpg

All students should have a copy of the textbook at home.  Please contact the office if you did not get a copy of the book on August 10 or August 11.

Expectations and requirements for distance learning:

  • Students must join the video chat meeting at the beginning of EVERY class period.   As of now we will be using Zoom.
  • We will be taking attendance every period  based on who is  present or not present in the Zoom meeting.
  • Students must keep their camera on.  Cameras can only be disabled in case of an emergency.
  • Most Zoom meetings will not take up the entire class period.  Some will last only long enough to take attendance and discuss what is happening that day
  • Students will be notified when they are allowed to leave a meeting that is still in progress.
  • Students are expected to follow all school and classroom rules while attending video meetings.   Inappropriate behavior will be recorded.

Classwork, Grades, etc

  • All classwork will be done through Canvas.  Some assignments will require access to Google Classroom as well.
  • Students should  expect three assignments per week.   Usually  these assignments will consist of...
    • One Q&A worksheet covering one or more sections in the textbook.
    • One assignment that will require reading an outside source, a short slide-show, watching a short video etc...and answering questions based on the information in those sources.
    • An open book/note quiz based on the section(s) covered in the first two assignments and the textbook.
  • Students need to pay close attention to the due dates for each assignment.
  • LATE WORK:  There will be a 5% deduction, per day, for late work.  This will not apply to every assignment but students should pay close attention to DUE DATES.

This syllabus will be updated  as we work our way through the first few weeks of school.

Thank you for your patience!
